UKITA Software Made in Britain group
A showcase for the UK's home-grown software productsCurrently, most government IT sector efforts are focused on engaging with the multinational IT giants which operate here in the UK. Typically these organisations have most of their employment, pay tax and hold their Intellectual Property OUTSIDE the UK and are therefore limiting the country’s benefit to the fact that they provide employment for our people. At the other end of the scale are the fashionable ‘Tech Startups’ which have captured the government’s attention with a clamour and noise which is reminiscent of popular TV shows like The X Factor. Generally, these startup companies are NET CONSUMERS of government and taxpayer resources and have modest aims related to creating employment. The engine that drives this overheated part of the IT sector is an investment ecosystem and a desire by local authorities and regions to be seen to be doing something. If these 'Tech startups' do become successful, they will be generally sold to investors or global players, again outside the UK. That's not by accident or a by-product of the process. 'Exit' has been at the front of mind at all stages during the startup and investment stages and for the UK that tends to mean sale to non UK companies. UKITA is the IT sector organisation which is focused on the productive, tax-paying, customer-facing, people-employing part of the IT sector. Software Made in Britain is a project inspired by the innovative German example of Software Made in Germany created by our counterparts, friends and fellow PINSME members there called Bitmi. (the German site links are to machine-translations made by Google Translate) Our Software Made in Britain (SMiB) badge confirms that the software products listed below (and click on the Members tab) conform to our SMiB guidelines.
