SharePoint is Microsoft's flagship infrastructure platform for portals, collaboration and workflow management. It’s now also available in the Cloud as an option in Office 365 so becomes of interest to a whole new category of SME customers.
Often described as the current number 2 "Hottest Technology" after Cloud, SharePoint is a good commercial offering to have. The commercial ecosystem includes implementation, consultancy, customisation, bespoke development and business-integration.
Although it's a firm favourite of pro-Microsoft IT departments, it has competition - Huddle for example actively markets itself as the non-SharePoint choice in a bid to go round corporate IT procurement decisions and get to the business departments directly. At the lower end, some of SharePoint's functionality can be achieved free of charge using Google Sites.
Our aim in this group is to gather together a national capability REGISTER of members who have skills and expertise in the SharePoint ecosystem to enable joint working, creation of best practice and client-advice white papers and to create both visibility and leads for our members using our UKITA platforms and PR.
