The larger IT providers and customers have been using offshore resources as part of their delivery resource for many years but many medium and smaller IT companies are put off trying this method of resourcing projects because of perceived risks of quality, timeliness of delivery and project management issues.

Disaster stories do exist and certainly there are project management, documentation and communications issues that need more attention in an offshore scenario than when employing your own staff and contractors in the UK.

Nevertheless, there are many reputable and professionally-run offshore companies who adhere to a high level of professionalism and ethics. In order to help the mid-sized and smaller UK IT companies to take their first steps in offshore outsourcing, UKITA has started to compile a directory of offshore outsourcers who are able to demonstrate verifiable certifications, accreditations and have recent successful project references for UK-based customers.

If you are considering entering into a project with ANY outsourcing company you will need to carry out your own due diligence and ensure that proper project contracts and project management  documents are in place.

HOW WE VERIFY OFFSHORE OUTSOURCERS

Our verifications are carried out on a practical basis of what we CAN check – for example scanned copies of certificates and accreditations.

UK Client Project References Verified by UK IT Association:

We check that the UK client companies are genuine and that the named referee works for that company. We then send the referee the project description supplied to us by the outsourcer and ask the referee whether it is a fair and accurate description of the work carried out.  We also ask whether the client company would engage the outsourcing company on future projects
