Over 50 local business-people attended a joint WMita / Institute of Innovation & Enterprise (IIE) event entitled ‘Promoting My Business – How to Maximise Your Marketing Activities’.

The Black Country Branch held the lunch time event with IIE, part of the University of Wolverhampton, at the Wolverhampton Science Park on Wednesday 19 September.

Presenter David Wickham of Jon Oliver Communications provided essential tips on how to promote your business, including advice on effective e-mail marketing, powerful Press Releases and the integration of numerous marketing tools into an effective campaign.

The benefits of hosting joint events were obvious; those WMita members that attended enjoyed a ratio of 3.6 non-members to each member (where did the 0.6 non-member come from?)- so the networking was buzzing over lunch, which was provided free of charge.

Non-members must have enjoyed what they saw as two companies have requested to join the Black Country Branch of WMita as a direct result of the event and hearing the good work we do in the ICT sector.

WMITA Black Country Branch Chairman Nigel Babb said: ‘David’s session was just what was needed – basic enough for newcomers to understand and a gentle reminder to those of us that think we know what we’re doing but in reality have forgotten some key points”

Nigel Mills from Interlinx, a member of the Black Country Committee said, whilst chomping on a prawn with chilli dip, “it was great and re-assuring to know I’ve been doing most of it right up to now, but I’ve spotted one or two areas where I can make improvements – well worth attending”

Don’t worry you don’t have to employ a Nigel to be a member of the Black Country branch, but you’re certainly missing out if you don’t attend one of our events and make yourself known to everyone else. The branch is here to help you do more business. We can’t do that without you, so come along and swell the numbers even more. Our next event is the first informal networking event under the Black Country Offline banner. So come along to the Wing Wah Chinese Buffet in Wolverhampton on Wednesday 17 October and share some Noodles with the Nigels – full details and registration can be found at http://www.ukita.co.uk/events/BlackCountryOffline/
