'Leitch review of skills' seminar


The WMRA are holding a seminar on July 15 based on:

  •  Meeting the targets set in the Leitch review of skills
  •  the scale of the task
  •  potential benefits for the regional economy


The seminar will be held at Advantage West Midlands in Birmingham near to Aston Science Park.  The draft agenda for the day is as follows;

Opportunity to network with other Regional Data and Intelligence Network members over refreshments.

10.00 Introduction and Welcome by Richard Hutchins, Corporate Director - Economic Development , Advantage West Midlands

Brief overview of the Leitch review of skills and links to the Regional Economic Strategy and the Skills Action Plan

10:10 Meeting the Leitch targets ,the scale of the task by  Stewart Houghton, Research Analyst, Skills team, West Midlands Regional Observatory

Exploring the region's recent performance in the area of skills and the scale of the task to meet the stretching targets set out in the Leitch review by 2020 at a regional and sub-regional level

10:30 The Benefits for the economy of meeting the Leitch targets byAndy Phillips, Head of Skills research, West Midlands Regional Observatory . Highlighting the potential benefits for the region of improved skill and qualification attainment in terms of productivity, employment rates and the generation of additional GVA and jobs.

11:05 Discussion Chaired by Richard Hutchins - Andy Phillips and Stewart Houghton on the panel

What are the issues and challenges we need to address if these ambitious challenges are to be met? What are the issues for employers, individuals and skills providers? Informing future iterations of the Skills Action Plan
