'Joined-up', 'breaking down stove pipes', 'matrix management' and 'one-stop-shop', are all examples of terms that pervade today's security speak and signify a trend towards integrated effort, perhaps in response to economic pressures or complex and combined threats. How much of this is reality, aspiration, or wishful thinking? The annual conference is taking 'Joined-Up Security' as a theme exploring this issue from, technical, organisational, theoretical and policy perspectives. The conference can be viewed as a health-check on how joined-up security really is and an attempt to identify common problems and successes.
