DESCRIPTION
Information Technology is now an integrated part of our daily lives. It is not surprising that there has also been an increase in computer-related crimes over the past decades. Cybercrimes have become more sophisticated over recent years and are hindering the public and private sector as well as individuals. National and international security and economic development need to be protected from various types of cybercrimes and forms of cyber-attacks.
This workshop which is part of a series of workshops on cybercrimes is a joint venture between Wolverhampton University and University of Chester. The goals of these workshops are to discuss different security issues related to cybercrime from social, legal and technical perspectives in order to enhance awareness and exchange of knowledge. We recognize that by increasing the understanding of the risks and challenges of cybercrimes is one way to equip attendees with the skills and knowledge to protect and prevent cybercrimes threats.
This workshop seeks to:
• Present the significance of cybercrime
• Increase awareness of the problems and approaches to prevent businesses and end customers.
• Discuss the legal framework and concepts and tackling cybercrimes through cybercrime legislation
• Consider the nature of cybercrimes and impacts in the public and private sector
• Improving investigations through newly-developed tools
• Discuss changes in ethical consideration and responsibility – user, business, internet providers
• Provide skills to those wishing to pursue careers in this area
• Aid training and understanding in cybercrimes
The day will comprise of three sessions led by experts from academia and businesses working in the field.
Session One: The Threat of Cybercrime
There have been several reports recently claiming the threat of cybercrime is rising sharply. It is now a serious problem affecting businesses of all sizes and sectors. This session will underpin the rest of the workshop. It will outline the wide range of threats that have emerged through the use of the internet. Through exploring the vulnerabilities and how threats can emerge, participants will have more awareness of the latest threats and how they can be avoided.
Session Two: Training and Understanding
Training and understanding is critical for businesses and users to be in a position to protect themselves from possible attacks. After establishing the threats from session one, this session will focus on the skills and knowledge.
Session Three: Impact on society
Cybercrimes can have a damaging and lasting effect on businesses and users. Cybercrimes can damage businesses financial and also hinder reputations. Society now has concerns that information and data is no longer secure. It is important to acknowledge the impact such attacks can have in context of an individual business and also on a wider scale in order to ensure that correct countermeasures are used to protect against cyber attacks.
We welcome contributions in the form of papers and presentations on the three themes highlighted from Cyber security professionals, Academics, Security Professionals, Postgraduate students, Information Technology Professionals, Researchers.
Deadline for papers submission and for registering is Friday 03 Feb 2012.
A fee of £50.00 is to be paid by all attendants; this charge is for administrative costs, refreshments and lunch. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation if required. Payments should be made through the online system by Wednesday 29 Feb 2012.
