Matthew Boulton College has moved to purpose-built premises in the centre of Birmingham, serving the needs of residents and businesses throughout the Midlands and beyond.

The face of education is changing dramatically. Matthew Boulton College has been at the forefront of development and innovation in further and higher education in Birmingham for over 100 years; the latest development is the most dramatic yet.

The plan for Eastside, the area around Millennium Point, is to provide a vibrant learning quarter. Matthew Boulton College is at the centre of this development with a new 21st century state-of the-art building which opened in July 2005.

At a project value approaching £40 million, the new College provides stunning premises to house both existing and developing business. It is the largest further education development the region has seen and approaches the second largest
national project.

The evidence of our commitment to excellence is clear through the numerous accolades and awards given to Matthew Boulton College. In 2002, we received the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education; the highest accolade given to an educational institution.

We have achieved the ISO 9001 quality standard, received the Investors in People Award, and won the Beacon Award for Health Care programmes. We are a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) and have specialised provision in the following areas:

• Vocational Medical Sciences
• Business and Professional Services

All of the vocational areas in the College will be equipped with the very latest technology to support students’ learning needs in the 21st Century.


This latest chapter of the College’s history brings about changes to enable the oldest provider of further education in the City to move to the newest facilities in the FE sector, providing a flagship building and facilities. The opening of the new College in 2005 provides the most advanced facilities that Birmingham and the West Midlands have to offer.

As one of the major providers of both further and higher education, the College plays a pivotal role in the development of the whole area, offering a wide range of full-time and part-time programmes to match both city and regional needs.

Matthew Boulton College will give students access to research, cutting edge industries, and further and higher education, together with excellent support and advice.


Already Aston University and UCE have campuses adjacent to the new College from which our students will benefit. Birmingham City Library, Millennium Point, the New Technology Institute and Aston Science Park have all announced plans to develop further services in the area.

The College is at the heart of the city and, with enhanced partnerships, will help place Birmingham and the West Midlands at the forefront of education. Matthew Boulton College is set to play a key role in the learning renaissance of Birmingham and to assist in developing education and skills for all.
