The UK IT Association (UKITA) took notice last week, as many would have done, when Yahoo announced that they have purchased Summly from 17 year old entrepreneur Nick D'Aloisio.
Nick himself has done particularly well out of the deal, with Yahoo paying an estimated £20 million in cash and shares for the company which they are now expected to shut down.

The IT sector in the EU is projected to need an extra 900,000 professionals by 2015. It is apparent that more needs to be done to attract skilled workers into the IT industry. The UK IT Association has been encouraged by the European Commission’s creation of the Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs, but more needs to be done to close the IT skills gap.

Black Country businesses will be tapping into the knowledge of a panel of experts when a Budget event is held in Wolverhampton.

The Grand Coalition for Digital Jobs was formally launched on 4th March. European Commission President José Manuel Barroso called on Europe's digital businesses, governments, training and education sectors to address the issue of 900,000 job vacancies that are expected to be unfilled in the IT Sector by 2015.

The UK Government have been left red faced as the 4G auction raised £1.2billion less than they had forecast in their Autumn Statement. The £2.3billion auction saw Vodafone spend the most, bidding £790million to secure blocks in both available wavelengths.

The European Council reached agreement on EU expenditure for 2014-2020, and much of the cut in spending comes directly from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), a fund set up to increase technology take-up across the EU.
