On November the 10th, UKITA were at the West Midlands ICT Conference. Held in Solihull, the annual and 6th free conference had hundreds of delegates and focused talks on R&D, funding streams, international trade and graduate interns.
The ICT Cluster has been established and funded by Advantage West Midlands (the local RDA) to target investment, and improve the competitiveness of the region’s ICT businesses. The awards (for ICT Excellence) had over 30 businesses shortlisted for eight categories, and focused on Innovation. 4 of these were UKITA members (Acutec, Contigo, Diptec & Tracer Management), 3 were partners (IT Futures and Staffs Uni) and 3 were ex-members. Talks at the Conference included: • Opportunities and Challenges for ICT • Innovation – Solutions, ways to Success • Mobile Technologies • Business & Finance Streams (Public & private) • EU Funding streams (FP7) The slides from these talks should be available soon: link to be added later. News items from the Cluster, NCC and others will be added here once published: links to be added. The Cluster also launched, and heavily promoted all AWM projects and the AWMist (aka MIST) which is a web-map based information search tool, similar to the UKITA MAP. However, this does not go live until early 2010 but will be "the first comprehensive directory of ICT businesses in the WM region". For more information about this please contact AWM. The Birmingham Post had an article on this: Link to Birmingham Post here. |
