Title: Questions about SEO???
Post by: theodore9 on December 12, 2007, 04:27:47 PM
I have my own website but have never been able to place top 10 in the search engines. I have read about SEO and even tried to optimize to achieve better positioning without any results.
Can anyone point me to the right direction? I really don't know what I am doing wrong. I am not a professional developer, I am self taught, but have been writing html for years.

Any help will be greatly appreciated..

Hello, I am getting you very well..

There’re so many factors: on page: keyword in title, link text, in bold, link text from back links, size of your site, frequency of updating your site..
Or Have a look at SEO (http://webwisemedia.com/) that for some more tips. The main thing is that seems to work is getting you to top from other sites to help you rank well.
Thanks!!

Hello Theodore9.
I'm not a techie at all but have 2 websites that I have or am working on regards this subject.

My first site has been top of searches for its subject genre for years - if you search for Tobago in Google it comes up top. I spend nothing marketing it.

The second is my picture library picturenation.co.uk and this is moving up the ranks well despite heavy competition from big players like Getty.

I've been told that the number and the quality of links to your site is what moves it up the ranks. I've applied that to my Tobago site with excellent results.

I've also done that with my picturenation.co.uk site and that is starting to work too. 'Quality' of site links refers to things like org and ac sites - and big sites like the BBC.

Hope this is useful.  ::)
