The Microsoft Case: The IT industry and the Future of EC Competition Law - a debate

The Institute of European law at University of Birmingham is organising an afternoon of debate which will deal with a
controversial case involving Microsoft, which raises interesting  competition and Intellectual Property issues in the software  sector. As the newly opened investigations show, Microsoft is a landmark case for both its findings and future implications. The conference gathers leading experts from the EC Commission and private practice, including those who have been directly involved in the case, as well as from academia. Its objective is to provide an insight into the difficult technical and legal context of the case and facilitate a discussion of its practical impact on the evolution of EC competition law and intellectual property in the IT sector and beyond.

You may find the court judgement at:   http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/eucase/docs/T-201-04EN.pdf , which in some Computer Scientists view shows a good level of insight by the Court and EC into the nature of software, interoperability, protocols, specifications and implementations.
